Course Description:
Designing outdoor living areas is creating outdoor spaces, with or without walls, used for a purpose. This seminar will discuss using basic design principles to create outdoor rooms such as kitchens, family rooms, retreats, etc. It will review circulation, sizing, elements, such as seating and lighting, views and connections. Defining the outdoor space using floors, ceilings and walls of various types.

Biography:
Yvonne English, registered landscape architect, licensed landscape contractor and LEED AP, is the founding principal of the landscape architecture firm, Legends Design Studio, Inc. Since 1994, Yvonne has designed and built residential landscapes in both the Midwest and California. Her residential designs range from intimate spaces and outdoor rooms to dramatic vanishing edge pools and spas. She loves to provide a nighttime dimension to her landscape creations with a dark sky friendly lighting plan. Yvonne believes to protect our environment; every design should incorporate sustainable design principles, like utilizing more drought tolerant landscapes and low-volume irrigation systems.

Ms. English is the current President of the UCLA Extension's Landscape Architect alumni association, a member of two national ASLA committees: the Council on Education and Licensure Committee and a member of the Education Committee of the USGBC Orange County.
