Course Description
Transit-oriented development, or TOD, is a type of community development that includes a mixture of housing, office, retail and/or other amenities integrated into a walkable neighborhood and located within a half-mile of quality public transportation.

TOD is community connectivity. Traditionally, transit centers, retail development, and housing were segregated activities with driving our cars from destination to destination.

As transportation-oriented design (TOD) expands in our communities, our urban centers offer more activities and choices at the nodes or stations. This allows us to connect with the suburbs outside the urban core and:

  • Reduces use of individual vehicles in congested areas
  • Combines the functions of live, work, and play
  • Expands a sense of community
  • Conserves resources
