Course Description
Water Architecture – A Fundamental Component of Landscape Architecture Humankind has manipulated water for more than 5,000 years and is present in most Landscape Architectural projects. This class finally assembles a systematic process for professionals to implement water in an artistic and engineering-like fashion similar to other LA disciplines such as hardscapes or irrigation.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the new role of Landscape Architects in architectural water design
  • Learn systematic approach to integrating water into design programs
  • Expand vocabulary of water materials and techniques
  • Understand the legal and agency code restrictions upon landscape architects in water environments


Biography
Mark Holden, ASLA, is a licensed award winning Landscape Architect and pool/landscape contractor, as well as writer and educator. As an instructor at Cal-Poly University Pomona, Santa Chiara (Italy) and lecturer at UCLA, he has been able heighten the industry’s awareness of the design and construction of water environments. Mark has been a columnist and contributor for Watershapes Magazine, Aqua Magazine and Pool & Spa News. His firm, Holdenwater, specializes in assisting professionals in the design of water environments for a wide range of projects internationally.
