Course Description
This interactive workshop will focus on streamlining and improving collection activities and increasing your profits!
Ideal for landscape architects, land surveyors, architects, and engineers, the attendees will hear about recent California statutory changes and the new requirements related to design professionals' remedies. The presentation will (a) explain Design Professional's Liens and the new requirements; (b) simplify Mechanic's Liens; and (c) discuss how to convert a Design Professional's Lien into a Mechanic's Lien.
Participants will leave with practical tips, techniques and suggestions on how to leverage California Statutes to get paid.
Biography
Milene Apanian assists design professionals, contractors and material suppliers get paid on construction projects by pursuing various collection remedies such as design professional's liens, mechanic's liens, stop notices, bond claims and prompt payment violations.
She counsels clients throughout the construction process, starting with drafting and reviewing service contracts, construction contracts, purchase orders and credit applications/personal guarantees for designers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and owners. She negotiates and litigates business transactions and disputes, breach of contract/termination lawsuits, design professional's liens, mechanic's lien and stop notice actions, change orders, delay, disruption, Legalacceleration, extra work, and changed conditions claims. She routinely handles mediations, arbitrations and litigation from inception to settlement or trial. Ms. Apanian also has standing columns in various construction trade publications and frequently writes construction law related articles.
